CASA Lake County
Annual Workshop 2019
Youth Mental Health First Aid
This is a repeat of last year’s program.
Anyone, anywhere can be the one to make a difference in the life of someone with a mental health or substance use challenge – if they know what to do and what to say.
Just as CPR helps in assisting an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist a youth aged 12 – 18 who is experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Participants do not learn to diagnose, nor how to provide any therapy or counseling – rather, they learn to support a youth developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or an emotional crisis by applying a core five-step plan.
Since 2008, the core Mental Health First Aid course has been offered to hundreds of thousands of people across the US and has been licensed & adapted for over 22 countries.
This unique, engaging program uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis, select interventions to provide initial help, and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Learn the warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among youth including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behavior disorders, and substance use disorder.
